Andrej Martin and Igor Zelenay from EMPIRE Tennis Academy played for Slovakia in DC, Slovakia-Poland 4-1

DAVIS CUP team members Andrej Martin and Igor Zelenay from EMPIRE TRNAVA Tennis Academy and TC EMPIRE played for their country during the weekend DC tie Slovakia vs. POLAND. (15th – 17th September 2017)

Slovaks had in their team except Andrej Martin and Igor Zelenay also Norbert Gombos and Jan Kovalik. Our tennis players played in the 2nd round Group I Euro-African Zone relegation play-off against Poland on clay outdoors at the National Tennis Center in Bratislava.

Andrej Martin arrived from ATP Challenger Bogota, Colombia and began practising for Davis Cup on Monday. "This match is specific for me because we finally play at home on clay after a long time. I arrived from South America on Sunday only. Concerning my health problems I was suffering before, currently I'm fine," said Andrej Martin before the start of the match.

The tie itself began on Friday when Gambos defeated Hurkacz in 4 sets and then Andrej Martin defeated Kamil Majchrzak also in 4 sets.
"I have played two matches so far against him. Both I won. I'm playing at German bundesleague with him, that is why I know him quite well. I do not know Hurkacz, I have not seen him playing at all. It is fine I do not play with him as a first one, it is now on Noro. It will be Noro, so I can have a look for a while. He is a very solid player, young, talented, and although he does not excel in anything, it is not easy to beat him. He has a very good stroke technique, itwill not be an easy match, since he does not give a lot of free points. He will be patient and also ready physically, " said Andrej Martin for www.empire-tennis-academy.com.

Slovak tennis player is enjoying Davis Cup for several reasons. "It's not often that we play at home on clay. These are ideal conditions for me to be honest. I enjoy the week with a whole team. Perhaps it will culminate at good matches for me," added Andrej Martin, who was not surprised by Zelenay's replacement of Lacko. They will play together Saturday's doubles match.

"It was not that surprising. This is the team we played together whole previous season. It was supposed that Igor will play. Putting Lukas in the team was more tactical issue. I think we're good team, we know each other very well, we've won lot of ties together," said Martin.

Igor Zelenay was also happy to be part of the team Slovakia. "I am very thankful to Milos Mecir for my nomination. I always like representing Slovakia. I really appreciate it and I hope I will repay Milos with winning one point in doubles for our team. We will fight for our lives trying to win. I hope to help our team to stay in the world group I," added Igor Zelenay. In their doubles match with Andrej Martin they lost to Polish pairing Lukasz Kubot, Mateusz Kowalczyk 7:6, 3:6, 3:6, 2:6 in 4 sets.

Sundays first match already decided the tie, when Norbert Gombos overwhelmed Kamil Majchrzak in 3 sets 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4.
