Andrej Martin makes singles semi-final and doubles final in Poprad

EMPIRE Tennis Academy member Andrej Martin did not miss out at Poprad-Tatry Challenger 2016. Coached by Miloslav Grolmus, Andrej Martin reached singles semi-final and doubles final in Poprad.

Andrej Martin beat Nils Langer from Germany in first round in Poprad in three sets 7-5, 6-7, 6-2, in second round he eliminated Austrian Dennis Novak 6-2, 7-5. Quarterfinal opponent was very familiar for Andrej. Belgian Kimmer Coppejans played against Slovakian player last year in Italian Todi, where Andrej won in two sets 7-5, 6-1. This time, it was a very different match, very dramatic until the very last moment. Match between Martin and Coppejans lasted 2 hours 43 minutes, Martin won in three sets 5-7, 6-3, 7-5. "I could not struggle more than today. It was very emotional match, very long and lot of things happened. I played very badly in the beginning, I was hopeless. I changed my racquet in the second set and things changed around. I started to feel better on the court, more secure. In third set I was struggling again, I almost lost it, but I played great balls against match balls of my opponent. In the very end, it was wonderful and quality wise great tennis," said Andrej Martin, who confirmed his confidence from last few weeks helped him to advance.
Recently he reached third round at Roland Garros. "It could be, I agree. When I get into the rhythm, I can beat anyone. For me it is very important to find the right rhythm. After I manage to do it, I dominate on the court, it is much easier," added Martin. Andrej Martin lost against Argentinian Horacio Zeballos in the semi-final in two sets 3-6, 3-6.

Andrej Martin played doubles final in Poprad-Tatry Challenger 2016 together with Czech Lukas Dlouhy. They lost in the final against Uruguay-Kazakhstan pair Ariel Behar, Andrei Golubev after 78 minutes 2-6, 7-5, 5-10. Martin did not add to his very rich collection of ten challenger doubles titles. "Both our opponents showed they deserved to win this trophy. They were the strongest here. I did not have a good day; I did not feel the rhythm. It showed in first set, second one was better. They played very well super tie break, they are deserved winners," said Andrej Martin about the final. They agreed to play two doubles tournaments with Czech Lukas Dlouhy. I am continuing to play with Hans, however he had to play in Poprad with Peralta because of Davis Cup, so we agreed with Lukas for two tournaments,” described Andrej Martin
