Elina Svitolina made the final in Connecticut

Elina Svitolina, Connecticut Open

EMPIRE Tennis Academy member Elina Svitolina had a great week in New Haven, USA, where she played at WTA Premier category tournament. It was a good preparation for the last grand slam of the year, US Open 2016.

Connecticut Open within total prize mone 695 900 USD is played on hard courts. Tournament was played from 21st to 27th August 2016. Elina Svitolina played her team mate from the academy Daria Kasatkina in the first round. More experienced Elina beat Daria in three sets 6-4, 5-7, 6-0. In next two rounds, Svitolina beat another two Russians, Rodina and Vesnina. Both in two sets.
Her semi-final opponent was bit suprising – Swedish lucky looser Johanna Larsson, who eliminated second seed Italian Roberta Vinci in the quarter-final. Elina did not allow any shocks. After very good performance won the match in two sets 6-4, 6-2. In the final, Svitolina lost against Polish Agnieszka Radwanska in two sets 1-6, 6-7(3).
"I think her game was on top," said Svitolina, ranked 23rd in the world. "She always plays this way, really low. The balls are really low, and they're like skidding a little bit. She was at her best, I think. And me, I was a bit up and down all the time. It's really tough to play against her when she's getting each ball and playing so deep," said Elina Svitolina for www.courant.com.
Elina Svitolina will climb up the WTA Ranking onto the 19th position. Her career best remains 14th spot from March 2016.
