First title in this year for Kateryna Kozlova at Rome

Ukrainian player Kateryna Kozlova, member of EMPIRE Tennis Academy, is at good shape these days on clay, as she has won the title at ITF TIRO A VOLO TOURNAMENT at Rome ($60,000 USD). Her first in this year!

Kateryna, who is coached by Jaroslav Levinsky, lost just one set at the tournament. She beat in the first round Italian Rosatello 6-3, 6-1, than Shapatava from Georgia 6-0, 6-1. She lost only one set at the tournament with Russia player Kamenskaya in the third round after drama 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Kozlova than beat also wild card holder Italian Pieri at the semi-final, who is Nr. 291 in the WTA rankings – 6-2, 6-4.

Columbian Marianna Duque-Marino, second-seed, wasn't able to stop her winning streak in the final, as Kozlova beat her 7-6 (4), 6-4. Kateryna has won 80 points for WTA ranking, she holds 140-th place at current online version.

“To won one tournament is a great feeling, but the year is ranked at the end. And with this view of point is not as good as we want. So there is not time to celebrate. For me is just the confirmation we are going the right way. And for Katya is a indication she is able to beat also top clay players. So it was Columbian in Rome final. Only time will tell, if this victory helps her in the second part of the year. But the most important things to stay healthy. We should speak about improvements only if she will be able to play in form like this more weeks,” said after her tournament victory coach Jaroslav Levinsky.
