Daria Kasatkina, EMPIRE Tennis Academy member, continued her tournament journey at BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Together with her coach Vladimir Platenik, they arrived earlier to prepare well for the tournament what was as a very good decision.

BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells is a hard category Premier tournament with total prize money reaching six millions USD. It is first start for Daria Kasatkina at this tournament. She arrived to US five days prior to the start. "We arrived on Wednesday evening and started six days of preparations. Everything goes according to plan. Daria is in Indian Well first time, and so far she likes it," said Vladimir Platenik for www.empire-tennis-academy.com. "We are training twice a day, together with one fitness training. We train for around 5-6 hours a day. We will do less starting from Monday. We plan to play some doubles practice matches with Elena Vesnina. They play together pretty well and it would be great, if they could try out some things on court," said academy head coach.

In the first round, Daria Kasatkina faced Indian Wells 2002 & 2007 winner and wild card holder Daniela Hantuchova. Daria won 6-2 6-4 and she advanced to the second round. The next opponent was Anna-Lena Friedsam from Germany whom she beat 7-5, 6-3 and she faced Monica Puig from Puerto Rico in the third round. Puig is world No. 67., they have never played against each other before. Daria won again 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(2). "I have to say that Daria was in troubles today. She was struggling like in doubles yesterday. She had to fight for this victory, although I must say that I am very proud of her, because in the end she gathered up a lot of courage. She started to play aggressively in the match, as I required it before. I hope she will learn from that and she will play better tomorrow," said coach Vladimir Platenik

Daria Kasatkina played in the eight-final against Timea Bacsinszky, world No. 21. She won 6-4, 6-2 and has advanced to the quarter-finals where she faced Czech Karolina Pliskova, world No. 19. Daria lost 3-6, 2-6.

Daria earned 215 rankings points already, she is making her Top 40 debut (now No. 36). She overtook Margarita Gasparyan as the No.5 ranked Russian in the WTA rankings.
