Kasatkina in quarterfinals, with her second win on the main WTA circuit

Russian player and member of EMPIRE Tennis Academy Darya Kasatkina has done exceptionally well in Bad Gastein, Austria on the main WTA event with total prize money reaching as much as 226 750 US dollars. She was awarded with important points into the WTA rankings, where she will move up 20 places.

Coached by Vladimir Platenik, who was also in Bad Gastein, Kasatkina won her first qualifying match. She beat one year older, also Russian player, Victoria Kan, convincingly 6-1, 6-2. In the final of the qualifying Darya Kasatkina met Dutch Richel Hogenkamp. Darya Kasatkina proved her qualities and good form and won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1! For Kasatkina it is second WTA main draw participation after last week’s success in Bucharest.

Darya Kasatkina did not get afraid of the challenge in the first round, coming across much more experienced Serbian Aleksandra Krunic. Member of EMPIRE Tennis Academy proved her raising form and won in two sets 6-3, 6-1. It was her best win of the season, against highest player in WTA ranking this year. At the same time, it was 40th win of the season for Darya. "Today it was very difficult match. Darya really wanted to advance in the main draw of the WTA event. Her performance was bit nervous than in qualifying rounds, but it was enough for a win, because she was disciplined and played according to our tactics," said Vladimir Platenik about her first round win in Bad Gastein. Miroslav Hlavna, president of Board of Directors of TC EMPIRE Trnava a.s., was also present in the stands.

In the 2nd round Darya Kasatkina met German Julia Georges, who she also met last week in Bucharest, when she lost in two sets 6-7, 4-6. This time, she showed brave performance and won in three dramatic sets 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. "Darya really wanted to improve her last week’s performance from Bucharest. In the beginning, she did not really understand what I want from her. It was something new for her, but fortunately during the game she understood and with solid display she walked off as a winner," commented on performance of her trainee Vladimir Platenik.

In quarterfinal she came across experienced Italian first seed Sara Errani. After dramatic match, she lost in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 2-6. Darya Kasatkina will earned with 60 points into WTA rankings and next week she should reach No. 130 in the WTA rankings
