Kasatkina wins second title from Minsk

Darya Kasatkina, Vladimir Platenik, ITF title, Minsk

Member of EMPIRE Tennis Academy in Trnava Darya Kasatkina (18) was successful at her second clay ITF tournament in Minsk. After winning last week $25K event, she achieved another great result in the same city, which means she is moving up in the WTA rankings to No. 160.

In the quarterfinals of her second event in Minsk, Darya Kasatkina met Latvian player Sevastova, winner of the February $10K event EMPIRE Womens Indoor 2015 played in the TC EMPIRE Trnava tennis club. "It is precious win. Darya had difficulties getting into the rhythm. Sevastova played aggressively in the beginning, adding effective drop shots and shots into the angles, getting Darya under pressure. Fortunately, Darya showed great fighting spirit and she managed to grab the match for herself. I think she was too confident after her fantastic performance on Thursday. Darya is taking lessons from these situations and that’s most important. Our main goal is to get rid of these weaknesses and then we can start playing WTA tournaments," described Darya's performance her coach Vladimír Platenik.

Kasatkina met Serbian Jovana Jaksic in the semi-final played on Saturday. Darya showed her strength and won easily in two sets 6-1, 6-4. On Sunday, she was playing for her sixth ITF title overall, fourth this year. In the final, she was even more dominant and beat home player Shymanovich in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. "Darya played really concentrated. She was disciplined, in the second set I had impression Shymanovich could get back into the match, but Darya made some nice shots and went quickly into 4-1 lead and Shymanovich had no answer for it," said coach Vladimír Platenik after the final.

For winning the title, Darya Kasatkina received 50 points into the WTA rankings and she will reach No. 160 place now.
