Kasatkina won against Bencic in St. Petersburg

Daria Kasatkina, EMPIRE Tennis Academy member being coached by Vladimir Platenik was playing prestigious domestic tournament St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy.

WTA Premier tournament is funded by 710,900 US$ and is played indoors on a hard surface. Kasatkina's Team arrived to St. Petersburg earlier this week and from Thursday morning they were preparing for the tournament. Draw for the Russian was tough and she will face in the first round her friend Belinda Bencic, whom she lost just one year ago at the same event in the singles semifinals.

"Daria and Belinda were training together before the draw was being made. So they immediately informed each other. They are good friends, it's a pity, but we cannot do anything with it. Both are professionals on court, so they will play their best. Daria is now experiencing kind of disappointment from the Australian Open, but I hope that's gonna push her to the future tournaments. St. Petersburg is a beautiful city, the organization of the tournament and the hotel itself are great. It is, of course, kind of home tournament for her, so she was really looking forward to it," said Vladimir Platenik, EMPIRE Tennis Academy head-coach.

Kasatkina won against Bencic in the first round 6-2, 7-5 and then lost to Vikhlyantseva from Russia in two sets.
