Slovakia lost to Australia in the Davis Cup tie 0-3

Davis Cup play-off tie for the World Group in Australia started with a prestigious match for Andrej Martin from EMPIRE Tennis Academy. Draw determined Martin plays 21-years old, World No. 15 Nick Kyrgios but Slovak player lost. On Saturday, Martin was partnering Igor Zelenay in doubles, but they also lost to Australians.

First match started 3 am Central European Time, Martin lost to Kyrgios 3-6, 2-6, 4-6. "I didn't play bad, but my serve was my weakness and I did too much sappy mistakes in a wrong time. Lleyton Hewitt said at the press conference that the score of the match was too cruel... So, I'm very disappointed because I felt that I can achieve more," said Martin after the match. After that Kovalik played Tomic and he lost 6-7(5), 4-6, 4-6. On Saturday, Martin/Zelenay faced to Peers/Groth but they lost 4-6, 2-6, 7-6, 6-7. Slovakia will not advance to the World Group and Sunday's matches between Kyrgios and Kovalik and Tomic vs Andrej Martin were cancelled due to heavy rain.

Andrej Martin commented on his impression from the venue and training facilities."Centre court is great. Grass court put on a court used for the ATP tournament in Sydney, before the Australian Open. I am bit struggling with training, because there is not much time we can play on the centre court. We only have one hour for the whole team, so that the court stays in good condition. We are practising in a training facility nearby. Grass is not as good, balls bounce differently. We would need to play as much as possible on centre court, because we do not play very often on grass during the season. We have the same conditions as our opponents, so there are no excuses. Tennis on grass is specific and unique, so we are enjoying it and I believe, we can show our qualities," said Andrej Martin for www.empire-tennis-academy.com.

Martin described one day in Australia. "All the transfers from the hotel to the centre court and training facility take 2 hours in total. We have non-stop something to do: physio stretching, practice, lunch, short rest, practice again, massage and dinner. We spend all the time together, because we are a team. We have good atmosphere in the team, we hope we can show it during the match as well," said Andrej Martin ahead of Friday's Davis Cup beginning.
