Svitolina won the title against Bouchard in Kuala Lumpur

EMPIRE Tennis Academy member Elina Svitolina and WTA No. 18 player was playing at the international BMW Malaysian Open tournament, where she won the title. Tournament was played in the biggest Malaysian city – Kuala Lumpur.

After joining EMPIRE Tennis Academy, Elina Svitolina had successful tournament in Dubai in mid-February, reaching semi-final, being awarded 185 points into the WTA singles ranking, making it into 18th position. So far her career highest was No. 15 in August 2015. After this triumph, she will move to No. 14, her career high!

Coached by British coach Ian Hughes, Elina Svitolina played at the moment at hard court tournament with total prize money 226 750 USD in Kuala Lumpur. She is number two seed. She beat Japanese qualifier Miya Kato (6-1, 6-1) in first round, another Japanese Risa Ozaki in 2nd round (6-1, 3-6, 6-0), beat Slovakian Kristina Kucova in quarterfinal (1-6, 6-1, 6-1). In semi-final she was successful against 190th WTA player, 22 years old Lin Zhu from China, beating her in two sets 6-3, 6-3. "I think she started really well - I needed to be really focused and wait for my opportunities. I played great and served well, so it was a good match for me. I'm looking forward to the final," said Elina Svitolina for the WTA website.

In the final, she was playing for the title against Canadian Eugenie Bouchard, tournament number six. Elina Svitolina won 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-5. "Thank you very much for staying that late to watch our final," Svitolina said in her victory speech. "I want to thank Genie for a great final; it was a really tough one. Hopefully I can come back next year!"

Winner of BMW Malaysian Open is awarded 280 points into the WTA rankings and 43 000 USD.
