Zelenay played singles after a year, made main draw in Prague and won doubles title

Knowle, Igor Zelenay, doubles title, Prague

EMPIRE Tennis Academy member Igor Zelenay was successful in Prague at CARS PRAGUE OPEN 2016 by Zenova. After more than a year he played singles matches and made it to the main draw from the qualies. Together with Austrian Knowle, they won the doubles title.

Igor Zelenay is not used to play singles anymore; last match in singles he played was in 2015 at Prostejov Challenger, where he was eliminated in 2nd round. This time he made his way through the qualifiers. "We were knocked out in Kitzbuhel earlier than expected so I decided to go to Prague to visit my family. So I said to myself, I will try to sign up for qualification, it is a good practice. Every match you play is much better practice than training itself. So I went for it and it worked. I am not ready to play singles anymore, to struggle with the young blood," said with smile on his face Igor Zelenay

Zelenay played together with Julian Knowle from Austria doubles and they lift the trophy after beating Argentinian pair Arguello/Peralta 6-4, 7-5 in the final. It is 28th doubles Challenger title for Zelenay. "It was very difficult final. Opponents served well. But we managed to win one of their serves every set. I am glad we have won the tournament because of US Open, because next week I am playing in Rio doubles, and I would not be able to collect points at Challengers," said Igor Zelenay, who will pair up with Andrej Martin to compete in Slovakian colours in Rio at the Olympics.
