Zelenay wins doubles challenger title in Bratislava

Igor Zelenay, Ilija Bozoljac

Igor Zelenay, member of EMPIRE Tennis Academy starting from 1st November, was successful at PEUGEOT Slovak Open Challenger. Together with Serbian Ilija Bozoljac they won doubles tournament.

Bratislava challenger was played in NTC, on hard courts with prize money reaching 85 000 euros. Igor Zelenay with Bozoljac won in the first round against wild card holders and Slovak juniors pair Klein/Molcan in two sets 6-4, 6-2. They managed to get exactly the same result against Czech-Ukrainian pair Satral/Smirnov in the second round. They cruised into the final after beating Polish Fystenberg with Przysiezny very comfortably in two sets once again 6-4, 6-2. Igor Zelenay and Bozoljac did not let the title slip out of their hands and they triumphed over British brothers’ pair Ken and Neal Skupski 7-6(3), 4-6, 10-5.

For Igor Zelenay, this is his fifth challenger title in current season (after winning in Kazan, Helibronn, Prague and Cordenonse). Overall he has 24 doubles challengers’ titles on his tally. This was his first title after joining TC EMPIRE Trnava and EMPIRE Tennis Academy.

It is his second win at the International Slovakian Championship, after winning it with German Phillip Marx in 2009. "Every title is very precious, but this one is special, because I had my little daughter in the stands," said Zelenay, who had not been father previously in 2009. He played his first tournament with Bozoljac and what a success. And what he has to say about his 24th career title? "Nice number, now it would require to win some ATP title," added Igor Zelenay for www.tennisslovakopen.sk. Igor Zelenay was in three doubles finals on ATP circuit, (Delray Beach 2010, Casablanca 2011, St. Petersburg 2012), but he has not been successful so far.
