Daria Kasatkina winning her first ever WTA title in Charleston, Safarova wins doubles title

The member of EMPIRE Tennis Academy Daria Kasatkina, 19 and ranked No. 42 in the world, defeated Irina-Camelia Begu 6-4, 6-1 to make her third WTA Tour semifinal, then she won against Laura Siegemund of Germany and she was sucessfull even in the singles final against Jelena Ostapenko. She won her first singles title on tour after making the third round in three Grand Slam events last year.

Daria Kasatkina who is coached by Vladimir Platenik, realized that she needed to change her game last year at the Volvo Car Open, when she lost in three sets to eventual champion Sloane Stephens. At the time, she said "they're going to kill me at the high level" if she didn't change.
"Now I can say that my game is play with the spin and slowly move inside the court, because before I was trying to play really defensive," she said on Friday. "I was a defensive player. Now I'm trying to play more aggressive, because the women's tennis is moving this way, so I have to adapt and get used to it," she added.

Kasatkina faced Laura Siegemund in the singles semi-finals of the Volvo Car Open and she won again 3-6 6-2 6-1! „It’s an amazing feeling to get in my first WTA final. Many thanks to all of you for your support,“ said Kasatkina on Saturday. She was fighting  for her first WTA singles title on Sunday and she has succeeded. Daria Kasatkina beat Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia 6-3, 6-1!
"It was terrible. Yesterday evening and all night I could not sleep. I woke up during the whole night like 2 or 3 times. I was so nervous, you cannot imagine. I was feeling like I want to just go on the court and everything let's finish, play. I cannot feel this anymore. And now it was worth it really. Really. I'm very happy," said Daria after the finals for official WTA twitter.

The Russian will move back into the Top 30 after the win as she aims to return to Roland Garros as a seed for the second straight year.

Lucie Safarova (partnering Bethanie Mattek-Sands), also member of EMPIRE Tennis Academy, advanced to the doubles finals where they were successful and won the title!
