Elina Svitolina is the champion in Brisbane!

Elina Svitolina from EMPIRE Tennis Academy has ended Karolina Pliskova’s title defence at the Brisbane International, booking her spot in the final with a straight-sets win on Friday night. The third-seeded Ukranian got her revenge over the Czech in a rematch of last year’s semifinal, winning 7-5 7-5 at Pat Rafter Arena. Then she beat also Sasnovich in the final and she won first WTA title of the year and 10th in her career!

Elina Svitolina has also stolen Pliskova’s world No.4 ranking to improve her Australian Open seeding a week out from the first grand slam of the year. It was a stunning turnaround after Pliskova raced to a 4-0 lead in the first set, seemingly in the same sort of ruthless mood as in her impeccable 2017 campaign. But Elina Svitolina somehow flicked the switch, winning the next four games before holding a shell-shocked Pliskova to love to take the ascendancy.
Pliskova staged her own recovery in the second set, clawing back from 2-5 down and saving three match points, but she couldn’t stop Svitolina from wrapping up a 97-minute victory. “The match was very tough. Karolina plays very well here in Brisbane,” Svitolina said. “Playing against the defending champion is always tough. “I was playing very badly, I was making lots of mistakes so I just said to myself try to take time. Just go for your shots.
It was Elina Svitolina’s second straight win over Pliskova, who had beaten her five times in a row before that.

The 23-year-old met Belarusian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the decider on Saturday night, where she has secured her 10th WTA singles championship.
